Beyond the music // Shazam makes everything digital

I was watching the latest Lynx TVC last night and noticed a logo pop up in the bottom left corner that prompted me to Shazam the ad. Once Shazam recognises the ad, it takes you to extended online content. Shazam have also started implementing this for some cable TV shows in the US, giving access to behind the scenes footage etc. at key points in the show.

It feels like having access to DVD extras (like “following the white rabbit” on the Matrix DVD), but with the ability to deploy on any type of media that has a unique audio track. Think of it like an audio version of a QR code.

Interesting development, shows that Shazam are thinking beyond music and demonstrates how digital continues to spread into the wider media landscape.
