FBI ignores SOPA, Anonymous fight back
So it would seem the FBI didn’t really care about any of this SOPA drama… until now.
Despite SOPA’s setback, yesterday the FBI triggered the take-down of file sharing site Megaupload. In retaliation, the hacker group Anonymous tweeted a declaration of war:
“The government takes down #Megaupload? 15 minutes later #Anonymous takes down government & record label sites. #ExpectUs.”
They’ve claimed responsibility for a variety of websites going down, including Universal Music, RIAA (the record industry’s lobbying arm), MPAA (the movie industry’s lobbying arm), and Department of Justice. They declared the FBI website was next, and as I’m writing this I can’t access fbi.gov. The White House is apparently next. Uh-oh.
Have the hackers gone too far? Or did the US government bring this on themselves?
